Looking for the best automatic feeder to feed your pet wet food? Before going to the comparison chart I need to mention that these types of feeders have to be used very wisely because as they hold wet food the smell of it really entices your pet in trying to defeat the feeder. So, the first suggestion is to consider your cat’s personality (if your cat is highly motivated to get food, that’s not a good sign) and the second tip is to never put the wet food in the feeder in front of your cat.
Best Automatic Cat Feeders Wet Food Comparison
We selected the best automatic wet food feeders that also are suitable to feed dry cat food. Some feeders feature a tray that rotates exposing the next meal while others simply have a lid that flips when it’s time to dispense the food. Choose the type that will fit the best your cat’s needs.
Best selection of the rotating-tray type feeders
It’s important to mention that all rotating-tray-type feeders serve the 1st meal right away since it’s not locked. The rest are locked and can be programmed.

Catit PIXI 6-Meal: Fully Wi-Fi Programmable
The Catit Pixi serves 6 meals in total within 24-hr, the first one at the present time, and 5 are programmable. This unit allows you to program the feeding schedule easily through the PIXI App. If you want to change the feeding schedule, time of a particular meal, or anything like that you can easily do it on your phone, and the new schedule will start working right away. The ice packs are quite large and keep the food fresh longer.
Since the Catit PIXI 6-Meal is fully programmable on your mobile you can set meals with a minute apart or hours apart, whichever you may want. So if you have a diabetic cat or a cat that eats too fast you set several small meals for your feline friend.
This device is not lightweight, weighing 1.7 kg with the ice packs inside so a cat can’t easily tip this over, unless is a very large breed such as the Savannah. For more written information go to the Full Review of Catit PIXI 6-Meal.

Cat Mate C500: best flexibility
This wet food feeder is ideal for people that want to feed their cats up to 5 times per day (4 meals are programmable). You can feed your kitty canned or dry food, or both. Since the ice packs keep the food cool, canned food can stay fresh for up to 2-3 days, depending on the room temperature.
This unit can be programmed to dispense meals in 10-minute increments. This means you can feed your cat up to 5 meals within 40 minutes if needed. On the other side, you can feed your cat once a day within 5 days as well.
This unit weighs 2.4 lbs. If you have a chubby cat that is highly food motivated, you have the option to attach the feeder to a wooden board for extra stability.

Petsafe 5-Meal: the feeder that holds up to inspired kitties
This automatic feeder is perfect to feed your cat 5 meals per day dry and wet food, but mostly dry food. Only 4 of 5 meals are programmable. Unlike the Cat Mate C500, this unit doesn’t come with ice packs so if you feed your cat a mixed diet you may want to feed your cat the canned food first. Right out of the refrigerator lasts much longer.
The Petsafe 5-meal can be programmed to dispense meals in 1-hour increments. If your cat is diabetic and needs to eat more frequently this unit may not work well for your kitty. This device weighs 3.9 lbs. so if you have a mischievous feline, this feeder will hold up well. You can find more information of the PetSafe 5-meal here.

Cat Mate C300: the best option to feed only wet food
This feeder is ideal if you need to feed your cat 3 times per day (2 meals are programmable). This device is perfect for people that only want to feed their cat’s canned food. Your cat will eat the first meal the moment you place the feeder on the floor and the rest will be dispensed within 48 hours or sooner, depending on the programming.
You can program the meals in 10-minute increments. This means you can feed your cat 3 meals within 20 minutes if needed or within 48 hours if you prefer.

SureFeed Microchip: the selective feeder that stops food theft
The main function of this auto feeder is stopping food competition between cats. This unit is ideal if you have a cat that steals the other cat’s food. The RFID technology allows only the kitty with the microchip to eat the food.
Although this automatic feeder doesn’t dispense food at programmed times, it’s an excellent option for cats with RX diets that need to eat wet and dry food.
You can place dry and canned food in the bowl if you put the split type bowl that comes with the unit. The canned food lasts up to 2 days fresh. The SureFeed Microchip weighs 3.3 lbs so it holds up to an energetic cat. You can find more information about this great feeder here.

SureFeed Sealed Pet Bowl: the anti-bug wet food feeder
This automatic feeding bowl is suitable for people that want to protect the cat’s food from the elements, either ants, flies or other insects. This unit operates with an infrared sensor that opens when sensing the cat’s body so it dispenses on demand. The Sealed Pet Bowl is not a selective feeder.
You can feed your cat wet or dry food. This auto feeder holds enough food for 2 days, so if your cat is not a little glutton, it can eat for up to two days. This unit comes with a regular bowl but you can buy the “split bowl” in which case you can feed your cat wet and dry food.
This sealed pet bowl weighs 2.2 lbs so it’s on the light side. The good thing is that it features silicone toe pads that keep the unit in place.

Cat Mate C20: the feeder for well-behaved cats
This automatic feeder is a good option to feed your cat dry or wet food or both. The dial timer allows you to feed your cat for up to 2 days. For example, one meal at 6 pm. and the second at 6 pm the next day. The ice packs keep the food fresh and freezing the food will make it last even longer.
This device weighs 1.8 lbs so if you have a highly motivated kitty this is not your option. This unit is ideal to feed a cat that is not food orientated.
This feeder may not be recommended to feed two hungry cats because the lids don’t open exactly at the same time since the timer is mechanical and not accurate. Because of this one cat may end up looking at the other eating.

Important tips when buying a feeder for wet food
The following are important criteria when buying a feeder for your cat. You can find this information in each review for a particular brand.
Could your cat violate the feeder to get more food?
The automatic wet food feeder needs to be well-designed to stop a cat from trying to break into it. The smell of wet food is very attractive so a highly motivated cat could try to defeat the feeder to get more food. The feeder trays have to be very well protected with a strong lid.
Can you customize the feeding times?
A very important point is the ability to program the mealtimes according to your cat needs. For example, if you want to feed your cat breakfast at 6 am, then lunch at 12 pm, and then dinner at 8 pm you should be able to do that. Some automatic pet feeders work based on default intervals so you cannot really change this. You only can choose the first meal and then the feeder decides the next.
How many mealtimes does the feeder dispense per day?
If you want to feed your cat 5 times within 24 hours you have to check if the feeder is able to do that. Also, check if the feeder can be programmed to dispense meals for 2, 3 or more days.
Do the batteries last a long time?
Important is to have a unit that does not make you spend too much money on batteries.
Does the feeder have a good warranty?
It’s good to have peace of mind to receive support from the manufacturer when you purchase a product. Pay attention to the short-term warranties.
Introducing your cat to a new automatic feeder
It is very important to properly introduce your pet to use this new device. Automatic pet feeders make some noise, so it is important to slowly make your pet to get used to the new device where he will eat from. A proper introduction of the new automatic feeder will be the difference between your pet using the new device or not using it at all. Especially with cats that may see the new feeder like something to be afraid of.
Steps to introduce your cat to a new feeder
1. Place the new automatic feeder next to his regular bowl or dish.
2. Put your cat’s food in the exposed tray of the new unit, without using the timer. To encourage your cat to eat from the new feeder you can use its favorite food.
3. Once you see your cat comfortable eating this way retire the old regular bowl, leaving only the automatic feeder in its place.
4. Finally, you can start using the timer. It is important that you are not over your cat during this process. If your pet knows that you are around, he will demand more attention from you! This is only between your cat and his new automatic feeder ;-)
Tips if you have a dog that steals the cat’s food
If you have a dog that eats the cat food using a selective automatic feeder may not be enough. In some cases you will need to completely separate your pets to make sure your dog doesn’t steal the cat’s food. There are some options to accomplish this. Check my article how to stop your dog from eating the cat’s food and learn good tricks to manage this issue.
If you have any question, feel free to write it in the comment box and I will answer as soon as I can. Good luck!

Can you recomend any wet food feeders for locksmith cats? Bonus points if it does not have an ongoing loud ticking sound.
Lorena Ávila says
Hello ark, the best wet food feeder so far is the Petsafe 5-Meal Electronic pet feeder. The only downfall of this feeder is the fact that does not have ice pack, but it is possible to use it with frozen canned food and this way it does work.
Jan says
Have been looking at the Catmate c50. Your review states you can programe intervals from 1 up to 90 hrs, but i’ve seen a product spec that indicates a minimum 4 hours between feeds. Can you confirm…?
Lorena Ávila says
Hello Jan, the minimum interval between feeds is 4 hours. Thanks for the observation.
Elsie says
Is there an automatic cat food dispenser for wet food and one for dry food with microchip recognition for two cats using their same collar with a microchip for both dispensers?
Lorena Ávila says
Hello Elsie, you can use the Wireless Whisker to feed them dry food and use these RFID collar tags to use the SureFeed microchip to feed them wet food. The SureFeed microchip pet feeder accepts any existing RFID collar tags. Hope that helps!
John says
Thanks for putting these reviews/overviews together. I had an easier time comparing feeders this way than wading through the Amazon pages.
Lorena Ávila says
You’re welcome John, I am happy I can help :-)
Jessica Kinsey says
I just ordered one on Amazon.com for our cat who only gets wet food now as he is in stage 3 kidney disease. We are going on a trip for 5 days so I was trying to figure out an easy way to feed him his wet food without it spoiling. We’ll see how well this feeder works.
Lorena Ávila says
Hello Jessica. What feeder did you buy?
GF says
Please help me understand how the wet food will not spoil in these after 5 or so days. I am looking for feeders that hold wet food for multiple days, but an ice pack will not last that long. Thank you.
Lorena Ávila says
Hello GF, what feeder are you referring to specifically?
Pam says
I’m sorry to be lazy but I’m sick and have little energy to read all of these reviews – thank you for doing them! I have one older cat that needs to eat wet food but wants to eat in little bits all through the day. She will throw up if she eats dry food because she has almost no teeth. The other is my daughter’s younger cat who she wants to eat only dry food and only so much per day. He wants to eat the wet ood my cat leaves around all day. Is there one feeder that can handle both of these situations with RFIG tags? We would all be much happier not having to shut cats in and out of rooms all day and night!!
Lorena Ávila says
Hello Pam, you can get the SureFeed Microchip pet feeder, one for each cat. Check my review here. Or you can simply get the SureFeed for your elderly cat and get any other good automatic feeder for dry food for your daughter’s cat, such as the PetSafe Simply Feed or the Pet Feedster.
JULIA R KATZ says
Looking for a cat feeder that opens and closes for only my cat. Because my dogs eat the cat food. I don’t want them to get to the food anymore. What should I get?
Lorena Ávila says
Hello Julia, for wet food you can get the SureFeed microchip only if you have a dog that won’t try to break into the feeder. Regarding dry food, The PortionPRO RX is the best solution. You can check a review of the PortionPRO RX here.
Jason says
Hello. Which feeder would you recommend for wet food for 4 days? Thank you!
Lorena Ávila says
Hello Jason. If you are going to be away from home I don’t recommend leaving wet canned food sitting in the feeder for 4 days, unless the room temperature is cool and you place the food for the last 2 days from the freezer. If that’s the case I recommend the Cat Mate C500.
Erin H says
I am hoping you can help me. I have 2 cats that are free fed dry food 24/7 but a couple years ago I was talked in to adding wet so they split just one package in to breakfast and dinner for each- just a couple spoonfuls. My female has lost her mind over getting this spoonful. She .meows incessantly, races around , causes chaos with her brother and with the dog..and now that I work from home, completely disrupts my work. Sadly, I know I have reinforced it because I eventually give in after hours of meowing. So now both cats and the dog eat dinner at 2 pm. Now the meowing starts at noon. I want to try an automatic feeder to take me out of the equation but I don’t know how this would work with the free feeding of dry and then just a small amount of wet twice a day. I work from home but would like for them not to associate me with this process. Can you make a recommendation please? I know I have created this problem but the hours of yowling while I am trying to work is…effective. 🤦♀️
Lorena Ávila says
Hello Erin, do you want to feed automatically your two cats or only the demanding one?
Sandy says
Thank you for these thoughtful reviews and answering commenters’ questions! I have a similar question to Erin, about feeding wet/dry to my cats with an automatic feeder to take the humans out of the equation. We have two brother cats who are entirely food oriented, and meow all day for food, so that it’s very difficult to *not* reinforce this behavior (there is no time they don’t meow for food – the minute they see us or see us move it starts…) amd both are overweight already, so free food doesn’t seem a good option. They eat some wet and some “light” dry food.
I was thinking the Petsafe 5-meal might be good (it needs to be a sturdy one) and I could set it up at night when they aren’t around, with wet for morning and dry for afternoon…
Do you think this would work? How would it work best for two cats? Would I need to get two? How specific is the timer – would they open at the same time if I had two of them?
Thank you for any insights!
Lorena Ávila says
Hello Sandy, for two cats that are good eaters it’s necessary to set up two different feeders. The timer of the Petsafe is digital so it should be accurate about the timing when opening, you just need to make sure to set up the clock exactly at the same time for both devices, not one second later than the other. Now as I always tell cat owners, with cats nothing is 100% guaranteed. Cats are very smart creatures and if they are really determined to defeat feeders they will find a way. However, this automatic feeder is sturdy and very hard to break. Hope that helps!
Gloria says
Is there a cat food feeder that is motion sensor open (without RFID – cat doesn’t wear a collar) and closes with a timer. I need something that will make the wet food inaccessible after 4 hours to avoid bacteria from food sitting out too long. I prefer plug in. I need something that I can set up before work and then the cat can’t get after 4 hours.
Lorena Ávila says
Hi Gloria, so far I haven’t seen a feeder as you describe. The closest is the SureFeed Pet Bowl that keeps the wet food protected and it opens when the cat gets close the lid, it doesn’t require chip or tags. The downfall is that you can’t program it, it’s a free-feeding feeder.
