I got the Litter Robot 4’s camera mount kit to install onto my Robot so I can check my cat’s elimination habits. The camera mount is part of the Litter Robot 4 accessories that help you to better use your unit. I wanted something like this a long time ago because when I travel I want to see if my cat is using the litter box and I also want to monitor the Litter Robot’s operation. Now it’s the perfect opportunity for me to do both. This camera mount kit doesn’t include the camera but in this review, I will show you a popular suitable model, and how to install it.

What camera to use with the Litter-Robot 4 Camera Mount?
The mount is compatible with various webcams or security cameras that use a 1/4”-20 threaded mount, magnet, or steel plate mounting. In the beginning I was confused about what type of camera to get because the Litter Robot’s website mentions “webcams” and not just “cameras” and there’s a difference. Webcams are meant to be used for video interaction, while security cameras are just to monitor and watch. So I got the Blink Mini camera which is a security camera and it’s suitable for the purposes I wanted it, specifically the motion sensor and automatic recording. The best part is that the Blink Mini fits the Litter Robot 4’s camera mount perfectly, but not only that. It offers a free version of the App that sends you notifications on your phone every time it records a clip (free-trial feature) of your cat using the Litter Robot. I recommend getting the Blink Mini camera in black because it will match the mount. Check the Blink Mini camera’s latest price here.

How to install The Camera Mount Onto The Litter Robot 4?
The installation seems tricky but once you start doing it, it’s simple. First, you need to remove the bonnet and plug the camera’s USB plug into the Litter Robot 4’s USB port, making sure to tuck the wire in along the slot designed for this, up to the tiny hole to get the wire out. Place the bonnet back on. Tie the excess wire with a wire tie and leave it on top of the globe. Now you can snap on the mount making sure not to block the sensors. Once you install the mount you can adjust and flip the hinge to get the ideal position for your camera. Now you install the camera onto the hinge using the magnet ring that comes in the Camera Mount Kit. The Blink Mini has a magnet (or metal) on the base so it gets attached to the hinge through the magnet easily, with no tools, and no screws. So you put the magnet ring in the hinge, and place the camera onto the magnet, and plug the wire into the camera’s port. Personally, we decided to position the camera upside down looking directly into the litter bed. Finally, install the wire cover to hide the wire excess, snapping it onto the camera mount and onto the globe. Here’s a video on how to install the Litter Robot 4 Camera Mount and the camera.

How to Train Your Cat To Use the Litter Robot 4 With the Camera Mount Installed
My cat was afraid of the camera so I had to train her to use the Litter Robot 4 again. So I started giving her treats and comforting her until she felt confident to enter the litter box. I did it several times until she started entering totally inside the unit. However, she was still nervous about it every time she saw the camera upside down on top of the globe. So then I turned the light off in order for her to see only the litter bed and nothing else (it was the evening). I also sprayed pheromones all over the Litter Robot 4 to provide my cat with more confidence. And all that did the trick! She started using the Litter Robot 4 normally and got several video clips of her doing her business. As I have mentioned previously, the free-trial version of the Blink App allows you to get short clips of videos and it has a motion sensor so it automatically records every time your cat uses the Litter Robot 4 (later you have to pay for video clips recording feature). Check my video on how I trained my cat and the clips I got from the Blink Mini App. Checking on your cat’s litter box habits is particularly helpful if your cat has issues using the litter box and also if you have several cats.

My Conclusion of Using the Mount Camera on the Litter Robot 4
The installation of the camera mount onto the Litter Robot 4 is not hard. You just need to understand how the pieces go together to snap on the mount. Choosing what type of camera to use with the mount is the real deal. Fortunately, I picked the Blink Mini camera that is highly compatible with the Litter Robot 4’s camera mount. Another popular and compatible option is the Eufy camera. The idea of installing a camera onto the Litter Robot 4 is excellent if you want to check on your cat’s elimination habits and if you have several cats and want to check who uses it more. You can also check on your cat while you are away from home, and check on your Litter Robot 4’s operation. If you use the Blink Mini you will get a notification every time your cat uses the litter box and will watch your cat in action.
I wouldn’t recommend installing a camera onto your Litter Robot 4 if you have a nervous and shy cat. If your feline friend is skittish, he or she may not want to use the litter box, but you never know with cats.
Get the Camera Mount for your Litter-Robot 4 and monitor your cat’s litter box activity. You can also direct the camera showing the Litter Robot 4’s view and watch your cat walking toward the litter box instead.
